Obs:

Definitions and methodology Regarding methods of contraception, young people were asked about their last sexual intercourse.
The list of responses included both effective methods (hormonal methods, condom use during the entire intercourse, intrauterine device) and ineffective methods (douching after sexual intercourse, interrupted sexual intercourse, mobile app, calendar method, spermicides, putting on a condom right before ejaculation) and emergency method (SOS pills).
If the respondent had reported several responses and included effective methods (e.g. hormonal methods + calendar method, condom use during the entire intercourse + spermicides), it was considered effective pregnancy prevention.
If the condom use during the entire intercourse and putting on a condom right before ejaculation were noted, it was considered an ineffective method because it is not exactly understood how the condom was used.
If ineffective methods were used and SOS pills, it was considered that the emergency method was used.
The dataset provides an overview of the effectiveness of pregnancy prevention methods used at the last sexual intercourse in Estonia. Data are presented as distributions by effectiveness of methods used (% of youth who had sexual intercourse during the past 12 months) and grouped by school type, grade, age, and selected background characteristics (sex, ethnicity, type of settlement, and region). The dataset enables comparisons between groups and examination of how method effectiveness is associated with background characteristics. The aim of collecting sexual health data on youth is to support understanding of developmental needs and the planning of health promotion in Estonia.
