Dietary guidelines recommend that protein intake should account for 10-20% of daily calorie consumption (15-20% among the elderly, i.e. 65+ year olds), fats for 25-35% (20-35% among the elderly) and carbohydrates for 50-60%. Additionally, the intake of saturated fatty acids should not exceed 10% of daily calories and monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids should account for 10-20% and 5-10%, respectively. Recommended fibre intake ranges between 2-3% of daily calories.
