The statistics on the treatment of Estonian health insured persons in Europe include the data of all the European Economic Area countries together with Great Britain and Switzerland (a total of 31 countries) where Estonians have received treatment and the Estonian Health Insurance Fund has received claim about it: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Netherlands, Croatia, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, France, Sweden, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Great Britain, Switzerland, Denmark, Czech Republic and Hungary.
The statistics of the Estonian Health Insurance Fund are presented according to the payment time, so, for example, no invoices were received from United Kigdom in 2019, but the invoices received by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund at the end of 2018 were paid in 2019.
The dataset contains an overview of health care expenditure for Estonian insured persons in European countries. Data are presented by country (including “European countries total” and individual countries). The dataset enables monitoring time trends and comparing the distribution of expenditure for Estonian insured persons across European countries, to better understand the financial dimension of cross-border health care use. The purpose of collecting data on cross-border expenditure is to ensure a systematic overview of the volume and changes in costs, in order to support monitoring of health care financing and organisational decision-making.
