Blood component

Blood plasma

The data of plasma until 2008 (included) are converted into units (average adult unit = 285 ml), although the data of plasma were collected using litres as the unit of measurement.
The dataset provides an overview of discarded whole blood and blood components by reason, including screening for transfusion-transmissible infections, in 2004-2013. The data are presented by calendar year, type of blood component and reason for discard. The data are collected from annual reports of blood centres. The purpose of data collection is to provide a comparable overview of blood supply and utilisation and to support monitoring, planning and analysis related to blood safety and transfusion care.
