Definitions and methodology
The dataset contains an overview of emergency abdominal surgery cases and treatment outcomes in Estonia. Data are presented over time by year by diagnoses (ICD-10), and outcome indicators include patients, operated and non-operated cases with corresponding deaths as subcategories, where results are presented by hospital type. The dataset enables examination of emergency surgery indicators by diagnosis and hospital type and monitoring of time trends. The purpose of compiling the data is to support monitoring of quality of care and outcomes in emergency surgery and to provide input for service organisation and pathway development.
