Definitions and methodology External causes of injuries registered by health care service providers. Also injuries from previous period that still needed treatment are reflected in one year's data. At the same time, injuries that happen at the end of the year but for which the health insurance claim is received the following year are excluded from the one-year statistics.
The table includes injury cases which have S00-T75 as main diagnosis (according to ICD-10). The table includes only cases for which the place of occurrence is used, i.e., external causes W00-Y34, except Y06 and Y07 (according to ICD-10), and cases of unknown cause. Cause is unknown if external cause is not registered or there have been registered several external causes belonging to different categories for that case. The place of occurrence can be known for the latter, although the exact external cause is not known.
'Other places' covers residential institutions, schools and other institutions, sports areas, streets and roads, trade and service areas, industrial and construction areas, farms and other specified places.
The place of occurrence is unknown if place is coded as 'unspecified place' or the place is not registered.
The place of residence is the county according to the population register. 'County unknown' is included under 'Estonia'. 'Residence unknown' is included under 'All places of residence' but not under 'Estonia'.
If the person's sex is unknown then these cases are included only under the corresponding county's 'Men and women' section.
