The dataset shows the number of women who gave birth and had specific medical examinations and activities during pregnancy in Estonia. Data is presented by year (1992-2019) and by medical examination/activity (all women given birth, cerclage of cervix, chorionic villus biopsy, amniotic fluid examination before the 21st week, ultrasound examination before the 21st week, cardiotocography). The set of prenatal examinations and activities collected with a birth card changed from 2020 onwards, and the more recent data is available in dataset SR441. Amniotic fluid examination before the 21st week refers to examinations before the 25th week of gestation in 1992-1997. Data source: Estonian Medical Birth Register (which is part of the Estonian Medical Pregnancy Information System register), National Institute for Health Development. The Estonian Medical Pregnancy Information System is considered to analyse the course of pregnancy, miscarriage and termination, and maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, organize health services, develop health policy, evaluate diagnostic and treatment approaches, and conduct statistics and scientific research, including epidemiological studies.
