The dataset provides an overview of population's years of life lost (YLL) due to premature death. The data is presented by year, sex, age group and cause (diagnoses). The indicators are available both as absolute numbers in years and as rate per 1,000 population. The purpose of collecting burden of disease data is to provide an overview of health loss, enable comparisons over time and across population groups and regions, and support health policy and prevention planning. Data sources: Calculations are based on mortality statistics from the Causes of Death Register; the indicators are calculated and published by the National Institute for Health Development.
